hi Audrey
Crikey that does not sound nice; hows your blood presure another effect of the medicines we use your BP can rise or fall. It might be wise to have it checked but rest with your feet up. On another thought I had an episode last year when I felt very strange and it turned out to be low sodium levels.

Take care thinking of you

No I've not had that so can't help I'm afraid, i would certainly get it checked out though and maybe in the meantime a stick would be reassuring for your balance?

I also feel like you. I feel weak and not solid on my feet. Let me know if you find out what it is.

Hi Audrey,

Sounds like some sort of viral episode, muscle weakness, imbalance that sort of thing. You could have a low grade infection due to the meds so needs checking out. It could be the start of a flare. Have a look at this blog I wrote recently about 'flares'; it might give you some indication.

Hope you are feeling better soon,

Hi Lyn,

I've read your article and it's definitely what I'm going through at the moment. I am expecting a phone call from my Rheumy's secretary tomorrow to confirm an appointment with my Rheumy. I really feel unwell and i just hope that this can be sorted out. I'm in the middle of a PGCE and I'm really scared that I will have to pull out of the course because of this.

Let's see what the rheumy says tomorrow.

Thanks for your help. The article was very helpul.

Hi Linda

It sounds as though your Sulfasalasine is perhaps losing its efficacy and something else may need adding to the mix to bring things under control again. I hope you are able to get an early appointment with rheumatology. Make sure you give them a reminder that you are sero-negative, this often seems to get overlooked and then they wonder what the fuss is all about!! I have quite severe disease and a lot of damage but my blood results rarely show the way I'm feeling. I had a depo (steroid) injection last week to control inflammation as I feared things were turning bad so hopefully they will give you some consideration and implement something quickly. Once a flare takes hold it can sometimes be difficult to bring back under control.

Glad you found the blog helpful Smile Good luck Linda

Hi Lyn, Hi everyone

I've been given methotrexate by the rheumy and I will start it tomorrow before bedtime. This seems to be the way most people say its best. I'm a bit worried about uni. I don't feel so sure that I can cope with it anymore.

I'm seriously thinking about giving up. I will see what side effects I get. I might be one of the lucky one who will get away with it.

I'm glad of this forum and thank you Lyn for your reply.

Hi linda

The course for PGCE is very demanding indeed. Have you spoken to the college re the RA? Perhaps you can defer for a while?

They can supply with Laptop and dragon voice software etc.

In the meantime- can you get a steroid jab to tide you over until the MTX kicks in?

HI Linda

Don't pull out just yet if you can avoid it! Are you on placement at the moment? It will be tough going but once the methotrexate kicks in you should, hopefully, feel very different and not everyone experiences side effects. It would be such a shame to give up now, you will finish in July won't you?

As Jenni says a word with uni wouldn't go amiss, they might be able to make some adjustments so that you are able continue. I don't what your schedule is for the coming months but perhaps you could say take time out from Easter until the summer and then continue the remainder in September when things should be better controlled. It depends on which uni it is but I have known someone on a PGCE do this, and in the middle of a placement!

Your GP may be able to offer you a depo jab, although some aren't happy to do it. That said, the only one I've ever had, two weeks ago didn't work! Heyho! Have you got adequate pain relief to take during the day and something stronger for bedtime so get you a good nights sleep? Again, GP should help with this.

Try and have a restful weekend. Let us know how you go on ThumpUp
